HI! I am a newbie to the letterboxing world. I heard about it when I
listened to NPR (national public radio) a week or so ago and I was so
excited to discover one of the hidden boxes that I immediately took
the dog out and went searching! Unfortunately, I couldn't find the
box at the end of the clues (as I'm sure you've all experienced), but
I didn't give up! My first box was found in Santa Clara (ironically
where I go to school) and lets just say I was ELATED when I finally
discovered it. I am so happy to be a part of this tradition and I
can't wait to make my own stamp and eventually my own box for others
to find.
The problem is I have NO idea what to put on my stamp, and
unfortunately for my I'm an art enthusiest (and Major) so I'm being
way to much of a perfectionist about it. I was wondering if any of
you had an idea of what to put on the stamp?!! I hope all is well and
if any of you know of boxes in the Bay Area I would love to hear where
I can search for them!!!

Is there a certain animal, bird, flower, etc that you really like?
My husband and I chose a seashell... our first date was at a beach in FL
known as Seashell Island.
My son's stamp is a Peanut... Pnut is his nickname as that is what my
first ultrasound looked like.
My middle daughter's stamp is an elephant because she is in love with
her green elephant stuffed animal.

...um, this is gonna sound really dumb and simplistic, but hey, that's who I am. You live in the Bay area and signed your post "Bridge". Why not a really coll hand carved bridge?
Too obvious? oh well... I figured, what the hell....

Use your artistic skills, by all means. That will leave most of us
jealous. There are many of us that are good carvers, but not
many of us can creatively design our own stamps well. When I
was beginning to carve I found that my best stamps started with
bolder, more solid patterns. They could still be artistic, but they
were simpler to carve. Now I can carve much more intricate
designs.
The other nice aspect is that if you don't like your stamp after a
while, you can carve a new one. My first sig stamp was the first
stamp I ever carved. I love it because of my history with it, but I
did end up changing it by the end of the year when my carving
was much better.
Good luck!
